What is Senna Auriculata?

Senna Auriculata is known as Tanner’s Cassia in English. It is an edible flower used in Siddha medicines to treat diabetics.

ORIGIN OF SENNA AURICULATA/AVARAMPOO

It is native to India, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar, and has been successfully introduced to several African countries. It grows wildly everywhere, even in no man’s land but is usually found plenty near the river beds. It tolerates drought and dry conditions.

Being native to India, it is found in Tamilnadu, Telangana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.

In fact, it is a state flower of Telangana. It grows extensively in all regions of Telangana. The bright yellow flower is believed to reflect the many realities of the life of the common man and the poor. Hence, it was appropriately chosen as the state flower in the year 2014.
