Roasted Chana Dal is obtained from a desi (local) variety of Chickpea (Kala chana) which is a smaller and brown colour seed. Kala chana (brown chickpea) is processed by removing the shell, splitting them in half, and roasting to give it a deeper taste and crunchy texture.

The roasted chana dal looks like a tiny bowl shape, the outer side light yellow in colour and the inner side half white in colour.

It is also available in whole roasted chickpea form.
