ORIGIN OF GREEN MUNG BEAN/PACHAI PAYARU

The Green Mung Bean (Vigna Radiata), alternatively known as Moong Bean or Green Gram, has been cultivated in India since ancient times. India is the largest producer of Green Mung beans. In India, Green Mung Bean's growing states are Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Orissa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

DESCRIPTION OF MUNG BEAN PLANT/PACHAI PAYARU PLANT

The Mung Bean plant is an erect or sub-erect, deep-rooted, hairy annual herb. Leaves are alternate, usually tri-foliate. The inflorescence is an axillary or terminal raceme with a cluster of 10-20 flowers. Pods are linear, cylindrical, and slightly bulged over the seeds. Each pod contains 5-12 seeds. Seeds are small ¼ inch, colour ranging from olive-green, yellow or light brown outside and mustard or off-white inside.
