INGREDIENTS

Chana Dal/Kadalai Paruppu/Bengal Gram - 50 grams
Dry Red Chilli - 5
Grated Coconut - 1/4 cup
Garlic - 2
Tamarind - 1/2 teaspoon
Salt - to taste

FOR TEMPERING

Oil - 2 tablespoons
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
Chana Dal - 1/2 teaspoon
Curry Leaves - 1 sprig

INSTRUCTIONS

1. To begin making the Chana Dal Chutney Recipe/Kadalai Paruppu Chutney Recipe - Firstly, keep all the ingredients ready.

2. To Cook - Heat a pan over a medium flame, add chana dal/kadalai paruppu and dry roast continuously for 1 minute or until golden. Transfer to a plate.

3. In the same pan add dried red chilli and fry for a few seconds (do not burn the red chilli). Transfer to a plate.

4. Now add grated coconut, tamarind and garlic to the pan and give them a quick mix for a few seconds.

5. Turn off the flame and allow all the ingredients to cool.

6. To Grind - Transfer the dry roasted ingredients to a mixer grinder along with some salt and grind to a smooth paste by gradually adding 1/2-1 cup of water.

7. To Temper - Heat oil in a pan over a moderate flame add mustard seeds and let them splutter and then add chana dal, and curry leaves and fry golden.

8. Turn off the flame and add the tempering to the chutney. Mix them well.

9. Chana Dal Chutney Recipe/Kadalai Paruppu Chutney Recipe is ready.
