What is Methi Thepla?
Thepla is a flavorful Indian flatbread. Typically, thepla is made as a breakfast meal or as a travelling meal. It is one of the popular dishes hailed from the state of Gujarat. Gujaratis love to eat their theplas with thick creamy curd, sweet mango chutney or even without any accompaniments.
Theplas are paper-thin flatbread prepared with wheat flour, and besan flour and seasoned with various spices. As the name says, theplas are mainly flavoured with methi leaves. Methi leaves are nothing but fenugreek leaves.

As I mentioned earlier, theplas are mainly flavoured with methi leaves. You need to know a few things about methi leaves. Methi leaves are seasonal ingredients and are available from November - February. However, dried methi leaves are available all around the year. You can use any type of methi leaves to make this recipe. In this recipe, I have used fenugreek microgreens/Chhoti Methi Leaves.

How to make Methi Thepla Recipe?/How to make Gujarati Methi Thepla Recipe?
Methi Thepla Recipe/Gujarati Methi Thepla Recipe/Thepla Recipe is a simple, tasty and flavourful Indian flatbread recipe. You can easily make this Methi Thepla Recipe within 30 minutes and serve it as a breakfast meal, snack meal or even as a picnic meal.

INGREDIENTS
Wheat Flour - 1 cup + 1/4 cup (for dusting)
Besan Flour - 1 tablespoon
Fresh Methi Leaves/Fenugreek Leaves - 1/2 cup (tightly measured)
(Or) Dried Methi Leaves - 2 tablespoon
Salt - to taste
Sugar - 1/2 teaspoon
Red Chilli Powder - 1 teaspoon
Carom Seeds/Ajwain/Omam - 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
Curd - 1 tablespoon
Oil/Ghee - 1 tablespoon + 3 tablespoons
Water - as needed
INSTRUCTIONS
1. To begin making the Methi Thepla Recipe/Gujarati Methi Thepla Recipe - Firstly, if you are using fresh methi leaves, clean the leaves and wash properly in 2-3 exchanges of water and then chop the leaves and keep them ready.
2. To Make a Dough - In a deep bowl, add wheat flour, besan flour, salt, sugar, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and sugar gently mix the flour for a minute.
3. Now add methi leaves, curd, 1 tablespoon oil, and add ajwain/carom seeds (rub the carom seeds in between the palms and add) mix all the ingredients well.
4. And then add the required water to make a soft and smooth dough. Rest the dough for 10 minutes.
5. To Spread the Dough - Divide the dough into equal balls (approximately 10 balls).
6. Now using the rolling pin spread the balls evenly into a thin spread (just like chapati). You can use dry wheat flour for dusting.
7. Repeat the above step for the rest of the balls.
8. To Cook - Heat a Tawa over a moderate flame and place the rolled-out dough and cook for a few seconds and flip the other side and cook for a few seconds. Now smear a spoon of oil on both sides and flip both sides for few times and cook until brown spots appear on methi theplas. Remove from tawa and place on a plate.
9. Repeat the above process for the remaining methi theplas.
10. Methi Thepla Recipe/Gujarati Methi Thepla Recipe/Thepla Recipe is ready.
