What is Pesarattu?

Pesarattu is a savoury crepe recipe/dosa recipe that is hailed from the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a unique and quick dosa recipe. Generally, dosa recipes are made with white rice and urad dal batter, which are soaked, grind and fermented before cooking. However, the pesarattu recipe/moong dal dosa is prepared with soaked and ground green mung beans/green moong dal along with spices. Pesarattu batter is not fermented and is immediately used.

How to make Pesarattu Dosa?/How to make Onion Pesarattu Dosa?

Pesarattu Recipe/Moong Dal Dosa is a simple, tasty, healthy South Indian crepe recipe/dosa recipe. You can easily make this Pesarattu Recipe and serve it as a nutritious breakfast or dinner recipe.

Serving - 10
Timing - 2 hours (for Soaking) + 30 Minutes

INGREDIENTS

Green Mung Beans/Green Moong Dal - 2 cups
Salt - to taste
Ginger (Chopped) - 1 tablespoon
Green Chilli - 5
Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon
Onion (Chopped) - 1 cup
Oil - as needed

INSTRUCTIONS

1. To begin making the Pesarattu Dosa Recipe - Firstly, clean the green mung beans by removing any dust and debris.

2. Wash in 2-3 exchanges of water.

3. Now soak it in a deep wide bowl with 4-5 cups of water for 2 hours.

4. To Grind - Drain the water from the green mung beans and transfer to a mixer grinder along with salt, ginger and green chilli and grind to a coarse to smooth batter with 2-21/2 cups of water.

5. Transfer to a bowl and add cumin seeds. Adjust the water level and Rest the batter for 5 minutes.

6. To make Dosa - Heat a dosa tawa, apply some on the tawa and pour a ladle of dosa batter, spread it in a circular motion with the back of the ladle to form a round dosa.

7. Drizzle 2 spoons of oil and evenly spread 1 handful of chopped onions and lightly press it.

8. Flip the dosa other side and cook for a few seconds. Turn again and flip halfway and transfer to a plate.

9. Repeat the above 6,7 and 8th steps for a remaining Pesarattu Dosa Batter.

10. Pesarattu Dosa/Moong Dal Dosa is ready.

You can serve this Pesarattu Dosa/Moong Dal Dosa with Allam Pachadi/Ginger Chutney as a breakfast or dinner meal.
