In this post, I've shared a simple and easy method to prepare Manathakkali Vathal Kuzhambu Recipe. You can serve this recipe with steamed rice or idli or dosai.

How to make Manathakkali Vathal Kuzhambu?/How to make Manathakkali Vatha Kulambu?

Manathakkali Vathal Kuzhambu recipe is a simple and flavourful curry recipe prepared with Manathakkali Vathal as the main flavour. You get to taste sour, bitter, salty, spicy and very mildly sweet flavours.

INGREDIENTS

Manathakkali Vathal/Black Nightshade Berries - 3/4 cup
Tamarind - large lemon-sized
Dry Red Chilli - 6
Toor Dal - 1 teaspoon
Chana Dal - 1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
Sambar Masala Powder - 1 1/2 tablespoons
Rice Flour - 1 tablespoon
Salt - to taste
Gingelly Oil - 4 tablespoon
Jaggery Powder - 1 tablespoon

INSTRUCTIONS

1. To begin making the Manathakkali Vathal Kuzhambu recipe - Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of water for 20 minutes. Keep all the ingredients ready.

2. To Cook - Heat a Kadai and add 2 tablespoons of oil add mustard seeds let them splutter and then add toor dal, chana dal, red chilli, curry leaves, and asafoetida and fry for a few seconds.

3. Now add the sambar masala powder and fry for a minute add 2 cups of water and allow to boil.

4. Meanwhile, extract water from tamarind pulp.

5. Now add tamarind water to the boiling curry and add salt and cook for 5 minutes on high flame.

6. Turn the flame to low and cook further for 10 minutes.

7. In a small cup add rice flour and 1/2 cup of water and make a slurry and add to the curry.

8. To Fry - Heat a tadka pan add the remaining oil and Manathakkali vathal and fry for a minute.

9. Finally add fried manathakkali vathal with oil to the curry and the jaggery powder and cook for 2 minutes.

10. Turn off the flame and rest the curry for 30 minutes and then serve.

11. Manathakkali Vathal Kuzhambu recipe is ready.
