How to make Chettinad Masala Seeyam Recipe?/How to make Chettinad Kara Seeyam Recipe?

Chettinad Masala Seeyam Recipe/Chettinad Kara Seeyam Recipe is a simple, tasty and delectable south Indian savoury snack recipe. You can easily make this Chettinad Masala Seeyam Recipe within 1 1/2 hours and serve it as a snack recipe/starter recipe/appetizer recipe.

Serving - 30 (medium lemon size)
Timing - 1 1/2 hours

INGREDIENTS

Raw Rice/Pachai Arisi - 1/2 cup
Black Gram/Urad Dal - 1/2 cup
Tapioca Pearls/Sabudana/Javvarisi - 1 tablespoon
Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
Onion (fine chopped) - 1
Green Chilli - 3
Water - 1/2 cup
Ginger (crushed) - 1 tablespoon
Salt - to taste
Curry Leaves (chopped) - 2 sprig
Oil - 1 tablespoon + for deep frying
Mustard Seeds - 1 teaspoon

INSTRUCTIONS

1. To begin making the Chettinad Masala Seeyam Recipe/Chettinad Kara Seeyam Recipe - Wash both rice and urad dal in 3-4 exchanges of water and soak it in water for 1 hour.

2. Soak javvarisi/tapioca pearls in a separate bowl for 1 hour.

3. Keep all the ingredients ready.

4. To Grind - In a mixer grinder, add soaked and drained urad dal and rice and grind it to a smooth batter by adding 1/2 cup of water gradually.

5. Transfer to a bowl and then add salt, grated coconut, curry leaves and soaked and drained tapioca pearls mix well and keep it aside.

6. To Temper - Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and allow to splutter.

7. Now add chopped onion, green chilli, ginger and saute for a few seconds or until the onion changes into transparent colour.

8. Turn off the flame and cool it for 2-3 minutes.

9. Now add it to the seeyam batter and mix well.

10. To Fry - Heat oil in a kadai for deep frying over a low flame, take a spoonful of batter and carefully drop it in oil.

11. Fry 4-5 masala seeyam at a time. Keep flipping the masala seeyam and cook evenly.

12. Once the golden colour is achieved take out the masala seeyam from the oil.

13. Repeat frying the remaining masala seeyam batter.
