Naripayaru Laddu Recipe is a traditional and unpopular Indian Sweet that is hailed from the cuisine of Tamilnadu. It is a classic sweet dish prepared in villages during festivals like Pongal, Diwali and many more special occasions.

It is an instant ladoo recipe prepared with naripayaru, pottukadalai, jaggery, ghee and cardamom powder. You can also add nuts like cashew, badam, pistachios or any of your favourite nuts and raisins.

Ingredients required to prepare Naripayaru Laddu are naripayaru, pottukadalai, jaggery, cardamom powder and ghee. You can also add your favourite nuts and raisins. For the perfect laddu recipe, please follow the below tips -

Naripayaru

Naripayaru is also known as moth beans, mat beans and dew beans in English, pani payaru and naripayaru in Tamil and matki dal in Hindi. Always use good quality moth beans/naripayaru.

Pottukadalai

Pottukadalai is also known as roasted gram dal in English, bhuna chana in Hindi and pottukadalai or udacha kadalai in Tamil. It adds a unique taste to naripayaru laddu. Please use good-quality pottukadalai.

Jaggery

Jaggery is traditionally used in this laddu. However, you can alternatively use palm sugar (karupatti) or regular sugar.

Cardamom

Cardamom is the most common spice used to flavour Indian sweets, especially ladoos. You can use cardamom pods or cardamom powder.

Ghee and Nuts

Ghee is an optional ingredient. However, I like to add ghee for extra flavour and taste. You can also add your favourite nuts and raisins.

Naripayaru Laddu Recipe | Moth Bean Ladoo Recipe is a simple, healthy, tasty Indian Sweet recipe. It is an easy snack recipe you can prepare within 30 minutes and serve as a healthy snack.

Timing - 30 minutes

INGREDIENTS

Naripayaru/Moth Beans/Matki Dal - 1 cup
Pottukadalai/Bhuna Chana/Roasted Gram Dal - 1/2 cup
Jaggery - 1 cup
Cardamom Powder - 1 teaspoon
Ghee - 2 tablespoons
Salt - a pinch
Water - 1/4 cup

INSTRUCTIONS

1. To begin making the Naripayaru Laddu Recipe | Moth Bean Ladoo Recipe - Keep all the ingredients ready.

2. To Roast - Wash the moth beans/naripayaru in 2-3 exchanges of water and drain the water completely.

3. Heat a pan over a low flame, add washed moth beans/naripayaru and dry roast for 5-6 minutes continuously.

4. Once naripayaru/moth beans slightly change in colour and nice aroma appears.

5. Turn off the flame.

6. Transfer to a wide plate and allow to cool completely.

7. To Grind - In a mixer grinder, add pottukadalai and grind it to a fine powder.

8. Transfer to a plate.

9. Now add roasted moth beans and grind them to a fine powder.

10. Transfer to a plate.

11. Now mix both ingredients together and keep them aside.

12. To make Jaggery Water - Heat 1/4 cup of water, stir well and allow the jaggery to melt in the water.

13. Turn off the flame and strain the jaggery water.

14. Again, heat a pan, add jaggery water, and cook for a few seconds.

15. Turn off the flame.

16. Add a pinch of salt and cardamom powder.

17. Mix well.

18. Now add the ground flour mixture and mix well.

19. Finally add ghee and mix well.

20. When the heat is tolerable, shape all the ladoos immediately.
