How To Make Easy And Quick Soya Chunks Varuval Recipe?

Soya Chunks Varuval is an easy, tasty and quick side dish. You can easily prepare this Soya Chunks Varuval Recipe within 20 minutes and serve it as an accompaniment to any lunch meal.

INGREDIENTS

Soya Chunks/Meal Maker - 1 cup
Onion - 1
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 teaspoon
Curd - 1 1/2 tablespoons
Lemon Juice - 1 tablespoon
Pottukadalai/Roasted Chana Dal - 1 tablespoon
Water - as needed

SPICE POWDERS

Turmeric - 1/4 teaspoon
Red Chilli Powder - 1 tablespoon
Garam Masala - 1/2 teaspoon
Salt - to taste

TEMPERING

Oil - 1 tablespoon
Fennel Seeds/Sombu - 1/2 teaspoon
Curry Leaves - 1 sprig

GARNISH

Chopped Coriander Leaves - 1 tablespoon

INSTRUCTIONS

1. To begin making the Soya Chunks Varuval Recipe - Keep all the ingredients ready.

2. To Chop - Wash, peel and slice the onions.

3. To Grind - In a mixer grinder, add pottukadalai/roasted chana dal and grind to a fine powder. Keep it aside.

4. To Boil Soya Chunks - Wash the soya chunks in 2-3 exchanges of water.

5. Heat 2-3 cups of water in a kadai and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Allow them to boil.

6. Once the water is boiled, turn off the flame.

7. Add the washed soya chunks and gently press to immerse.

8. Close the kadai with a lid and rest for 5 minutes.

9. Once the soya chunks are soaked and doubled in size. Drain the water completely.

10. Wash once again in running water and squeeze the soya chunks to remove extra water.

11. To Make Varuval Paste - In a deep bowl, add curd, ginger garlic paste, turmeric, red chilli powder, lemon juice, salt and garam masala. Mix well.

12. Now add the soya chunks and gently mix well. Keep them aside.

13. To Cook - Heat oil in a kadai, add fennel seeds and fry for a few seconds.

14. Now add chopped onions and curry leaves and fry for a minute.

15. Add the soya chunks mixture and saute for a minute.

16. If needed, sprinkle 1/4 cup of water.

17. Reduce the heat over a moderate flame and close the kadai with a lid and cook for 5 minutes.

18. Open the lid and give them a mix in between cooking.

19. Once the soya chunks are cooked add the pottukadalai powder/roasted chana dal powder.

20. Gently give them a mix for a few seconds.

21. At this stage, check for salt and adjust accordingly.

22. Turn off the flame and add in the coriander leaves.
