INGREDIENTS

Raw Banana - 2

TO GRIND

Red Chilli Powder - 2 tablespoons
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Salt - to taste
Khus Khus - 1 teaspoon
Fennel Seeds - 1 teaspoon
Cinnamon - 1 inch

TEMPERING

Oil - 3 tablespoons
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon
Curry Leaves - 1 sprig

INSTRUCTIONS

Here is the recipe to prepare Chettinad Ennai Vazhakkai, also known as Chettinad Raw Banana Fry.

1. Gather all the necessary ingredients for the recipe.

2. To prepare the raw banana, wash, peel and chop it into half-moon pieces of equal size.

3. Soak the raw banana pieces in water and set aside.

4. To make the spice paste, blend together red chilli powder, turmeric, salt, khus khus, fennel seeds and cinnamon in a mixer with a little water until it forms a fine paste.

5. Drain the water completely from the raw banana and place it in a bowl.

6. Add the spice paste mixture to the bowl and mix well.

7. Allow the raw banana to soak in the mixture for 10 minutes, and then check for salt and adjust as needed.

8. To cook, heat oil in a heavy-bottomed kadai and add mustard seeds.

9. Once the mustard seeds begin to splutter, add cumin seeds and curry leaves and fry for a few seconds.

10. Next, add the raw banana pieces to the kadai and mix gently.

11. Turn the flame to the lowest and close the lid. Cook for 2-3 minutes.

12. Open the lid and gently turn the raw banana pieces. Close the lid and cook again for 2-3 minutes.

13. Allow the raw banana to cook on the lowest flame until it is soft.

14. Stir the raw banana gently in between cooking.

15. Once the raw banana is softly cooked, turn off the flame.
