How to make Sutta Vazhakkai Thogayal Recipe? | How to make a Smoked Raw Banana Chutney Recipe?

Sutta Vazhakkai Thogayal is a simple, tasty and smoky side dish. You can easily prepare Sutta Vazhakkai Thogayal Recipe within 15 minutes and serve it as an accompaniment to any lunch meal.

INGREDIENTS

Raw Banana/Vazhakkai - 1
Dry Red Chilli - 2
Toor Dal - 1 tablespoon
Urad Dal - 1 tablespoon
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
Asafoetida - a pinch
Salt - to taste
Oil - 1 tablespoon

INSTRUCTIONS

1. To begin making the Sutta Vazhakkai Thogayal Recipe - Keep all the ingredients ready.

2. Wash the raw banana in 1-2 exchanges of water.

3. Wipe the raw banana and apply 1 teaspoon of oil evenly.

4. To Smoke Raw Banana/Sutta Vazhakkai - Heat a phulka grill over a low flame and place the raw banana.

5. Holding the head of the raw banana, flip the other side to cook.

6. Carefully, keep flipping all the sides to cook evenly.

7. You can use a spatula or tongs for flipping.

8. Smoke for 4-5 minutes or until nicely charred.

9. Turn off the flame and keep the raw banana aside to cool completely.

10. Chop both ends of sutta vazhakkai/smoked raw banana.

11. Peel the sutta vazhakkai/smoked raw banana and roughly chop. Keep it aside.

12. To Fry - Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and allow them to crackle.

13. Now add urad dal and toor dal and fry until golden brown.

14. Add dry red chilli fry for a few seconds.

15. Turn off the flame and add asafoetida powder. Mix well.

16. To Grind - In a mixer grinder, add fried ingredients along with salt.

17. Grind them in pulse mode for a few seconds.

18. Finally, add the sutta vazhakkai/smoked raw banana and grind them for a few seconds.

19. Now check for the salt and adjust accordingly.

20. Transfer to a serving bowl.
