About - Kerala Style Kanji Payar
Kanji Payar/Cherupayar Kanji is a traditional and popular dish from the South Indian state of Kerala. It is a nutritious and comforting rice porridge made with a combination of rice and pachai payaru, also known as green gram.
The dish is known for its simplicity and easy preparation process. The rice is cooked in plenty of water until it forms a creamy, porridge-like consistency. Green gram is cooked in rice water. The dish can be flavoured with a variety of spices and herbs, such as green chilli, garlic and turmeric powder.
Kanji, which refers to rice porridge or congee, is a staple in many South Indian households. It is a wholesome dish that is often enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The addition of lentils, such as green gram, adds protein and a nutty flavour to the dish.

In the context of Kanji Payar, it specifically refers to green gram, which is a type of lentil commonly used in many Indian dishes.
